Veterans and Noobs alike can benefit drastically from this and you are more than welcome to ask us questions should you need to!
Firstly, how to deal with the massiveness that is rAge:
Don't be intimidated by the sheer volume of people that attend rAge - The one good thing about all of them is that they're all like-minded people and are generally pretty easy to talk to. The crowds are big and Saturday can often see about 12000 people coming through the doors! Thankfully, the Artist's Alley is arranged in such a way that people filter through at a far more manageable pace
Keep Hydrated! - The Dome gets HOT, VERY hot, so make sure that you drink lots of liquids and that you take occassional breaks
Breaks - On the point of breaks, take them! It's exhausting talking to so many people and plying your trade. There's a reserved rest area for badge-carrying exhibitors that also allows you access to considerably cheaper food and cooldrink. Abuse at will!
If you are taking a break, please ensure that someone is manning your stall. The Admin team are on standby for this very purpose, but only three of us at a time can help.
Make sure you're there all three days of rAge. As we've specified in the rules, you must let us know if you can't be there on Friday - You must arrange with one of the Admins or with a friend to sit at your stall if you can't be there.
Don't be scared of The Cap's (my) boisterous nature, I mean you no harm...
There are often film crews that walk through the Alley and interview various people... This is a great opportunity to punt yourself, so do it shamelessly!
Take a cash float of various denominations to the value of around R500. There are ATM's available should you need more float.
Don't be shy! This may be tough, but when you're competing against a whole bunch of other artists, you need to believe in yourself and your abilities and hence sell it! rAge has a knack of bringing out the awesome side of people, so embrace it! If you are feeling overwhelemed or terrified, chat to your Admin team and we'll help you out in any way we can!
Alright, now that we've covered crowds, media and breaks, here's a rough guide for pricing:
Prints: Prints, unless specially arranged limited-edition spot-varnished works of art, should cost between R50 and R100, dependent on size and content. Try to keep a minimum of 10 of each print as well, but it doesn't hurt to have more, trust me!
Sculptures/ Collectibles: Use your discretion... Charge enough to cover your materials and effort, but don't get exorbitant with your markups... People are pretty tight with their money at rAge!
Clothing/ Accessories: You can charge your usual prices for your wares.
Set up: All exhibitors MUST set up their tables on Thursday, this is the only chance you'll have and it's imperative that you do so. We'll be there from 2pm onwards.
Valuables like laptops etc have a check out and in process that's extremely painful, so try to keep the valuable stuff to a minimum and do NOT leave any of it at the Dome itself. Despite the security, things tend to grow legs with all the LANers around...
