Dear SA comic/cartooning creative,
A while back some of us got together to propose ideas that could raise the level of awareness of SA comics. One of the suggestions was to find new events that could give us all exposure.
With that in mind Ray Whitcher (Captain Unobservant) from Legionink and Hello-SA and I put together a proposal to feature SA comics at Design Indaba. As you can tell from the subject line, we have been successful in getting the space.
To sum it up we will be at the event for the full 3 days; we intend to have an exhibition stand, to have a book area where your books can be sold, to do two workshops, a panel talk, presentations in the Expo area as well as doing at least one book launch at the event.
This is a SA Comics & Cartooning event and we hope to include everyone who has an interest in being there - including companies like Strika, Mamba and Jincom (who we've already approached.)
The reality though is that this is space we will have to pay for. The purpose of this mail is to inform you of the event, but also to get a list of people that would be interested in using this opportunity to market themselves and their books.
I would love to give the space away for free, but in this case we need locals to commit financially to secure their participation. The amount per artist/book/team would be R500 - in return for which your books will be sold at the event for the 3 days and additional exposure would be given at Expo area presentations.
I cannot stress enough what a huge breakthrough this event is in terms of making the general public aware of YOUR book/art/product.
All sponsorships and funds raised to pay for the event will be channelled through an NPO and audited.
If you are keen, please contact Ray (Captain Unobservant).
